Joyful trip hop, communion-postured·82 BPM·Bm·ACIM: holy relationship·4:34

"Let me see you as the light. Not a body, not a fight."

The Course makes a sharp distinction between a special relationship (one built on need, bargain, and scorekeeping) and a holy relationship (one whose purpose is to remember love together). The song is the moment a special relationship is willing to become a holy one. You lay your needs at the altar, you ask for something more than the contract you were running.

ACIM connection. The holy relationship is one of the Course's most demanding teachings. It does not ask you to leave the relationship. It asks you to stop using it. The chorus is the prayer: "Let me see you as my own. Not my savior, not my victim, but a self I've never known."

Joyful trip hop at 80 BPM half-time with a smile in the pocket. Em with bright color chords. Warm dusty kick, brushed snare with vinyl crackle, soft tambourine on chorus offbeats, fingerpicked acoustic on verse turnarounds. Solo judgment in the verses versus harmony union on the chorus: the production teaches the lesson.

Lyrics
Let me see you as the light
Not a body, not a fight

...

We've been trading expectations,
keeping score in silent ways
Wanting you to fill the spaces
that my fear of lack has made
Every promise that I asked for
had a hidden little price
If you gave me what I wanted,
I would call it love and nice

But beneath the push and pulling,
there's a deeper, softer call
Not to use each other's presence,
but to let the lines all fall
To remember we are brothers,
not two strangers on a line
To let every single moment
serve a higher love than mine

So I lay my needs before the altar
Ask for something more than this
Not a special, fragile bargain
But a shared and endless gift

(clear)
Holy relationship, let me see you as my own
Not my savior, not my victim, but a self I've never known
Holy relationship, let our hearts be used for peace
Every word and every silence as a way for love to speak
Holy relationship, let me join with you in truth
Let the roles we played fall open to the light that shines in you

I've been looking at your body
like it's all you really are
Judging every move you make
from a distance in my heart
But there's something shining through you
that the eyes can't really see
If I let my judgments soften,
I can feel that same in me

When I offer you forgiveness,
when I choose to drop the past
We become a single doorway
where the fear can't seem to last
Every time I choose for union
over being right and small
This relationship turns holy
and it lifts us from the fall

So I lay my needs before the altar
Ask for something more than this
Not a special, fragile bargain
But a shared and endless gift

Holy relationship, let me see you as my own
Not my savior, not my victim, but a self I've never known
Holy relationship, let our hearts be used for peace
Every word and every silence as a way for love to speak
Holy relationship, let me join with you in truth
Let the roles we played fall open to the light that shines in you

...

Take the fear, take the need to win
Take the plans that kept us small and thin
Use this love as a window wide
Where the world can see the light inside

Holy relationship, let me see you as my own
Not my savior, not my victim, but a self I've never known
Holy relationship, let our hearts be used for peace
Every word and every silence as a way for love to speak
Holy relationship, let me join with you in truth
Let the roles we played fall open to the light that shines in you

Let me see you as the light
Not a body, not a fight
