Surrendered trip hop, kit lifted away·78 BPM·Gm·ACIM: original innocence·5:41

"Whole, before I was anyone." (The album takes its name from this line.)

Track six is where the album gets its name. The chorus claim is that underneath every face you wore to fit the frame, every story you built your worth out of, every label the world put on you, there is something that no shadow ever claimed. "Whole, before I was anyone." The whole record is twelve rooms inside that one sentence.

ACIM connection. "I am as God created me" is one of the Course's central practices, repeated dozens of times across the workbook. The recognition is that you cannot be diminished by your stories. The guilt you carry is borrowed; the innocence is original.

Surrendered trip hop with the kit lifted away. F major with sustained Imaj7 and IVadd9 voicings, 76 BPM implied by breath and Rhodes phrasing. No drums; vinyl crackle is the floor, breath is the pulse, occasional tape-clicked low knock on the bar edge. Filtered costume in the verses (the false faces in the lyric) versus clean face in the chorus declaration.

Lyrics
I am as I was created
I am as I was created

...

I've worn a thousand different faces
just to try to fit the frame
Built my value out of stories,
out of praise and out of blame
Every label that they gave me,
every mask I learned to wear
Left me feeling like a stranger
to the one who's always there

When the roles all fall to pieces
and the noise begins to fade
There's a simple quiet knowing
underneath the games I've played
Not a victim, not a monster,
not a body, not a name
Just a spark of endless presence
that no shadow ever claimed

When I drop what I've invented
Let the false me fall apart
There's a light behind the mirror
Shining steady in my heart

(clear)
I am as I was created
Nothing real in me has changed
All the guilt and all the stories
Fall away like static fade
I am as I was created
Whole, before I was anyone
Underneath the shifting images
Love is what I'll always be

I've chased worth in every mirror,
in a world that's never still
Trying hard to be deserving,
scraping to earn the fill
But the worth that can be questioned
never could be true
And the love that can be bargained
isn't what I'm waking to

In the silence of surrender,
when I drop the need to prove
I can feel a deeper presence
that no judgment can remove
Not defined by what I've done here,
not confined by birth or death
Just a living, holy essence
in the space behind each breath

When I drop what I've invented
Let the false me fall apart
There's a light behind the mirror
Shining steady in my heart

I am as I was created
Nothing real in me has changed
All the guilt and all the stories
Fall away like static fade
I am as I was created
Whole, before I was anyone
Underneath the shifting images
Love is what I'll always be

...

I forgive the one I thought I was...
Let the shame dissolve into the dust
I reclaim the truth I've always known
I was never separate, never alone

I am as I was created
Nothing real in me has changed
All the guilt and all the stories
Fall away like static fade
I am as I was created
Whole, before I was anyone
Underneath the shifting images
Love is what I'll always be

I am as I was created
Love is what I'll always be
