I wanted to make EDM that hits like a kirtan. Sanskrit mantras dropped over heavy bass at the speed of a DJ set. The framework that fell out is the chakras: seven tracks through the seven chakras, then a two-minute ambient outro to come down. Each track has its own genre. Each track has a mantra you can chant along with it.

The arc starts at the root. Shiva's Dance burns the old self out. River of Wisdom floods the empty floor with the goddess of music, arts, and wisdom. Roots of Power grounds the new energy into something physical. Heart of the Sky opens the chest. Voice of Truth speaks what's actually true. The Inner Eye opens the room behind your eyes. Thousand Suns is the peak: ego dissolving into a thousand-petaled lotus, 148 BPM, no brakes. Ocean of Silence is the come-down so you don't crash.

If you've been to a sweat lodge or a 5am rave, this is the same room.

What each track is doing

  • Shiva's Dance (Eternal Vibration). Ego destruction at 128 BPM. Tribal house meets psytrance with a sitar, a tabla, and the Shiva mantra. Burns the old self off so the rest of the album has somewhere to start.
  • River of Wisdom (Saraswati's Flow). Fastest BPM on the album (174). Smoothest track on the album. Liquid drum and bass with bansuri flute and the Saraswati mantra. After Shiva burns the floor, this is what floods back in.
  • Roots of Power (Ganesha's Ground). Slowest BPM on the record (105), heaviest weight. Digeridoo drone, throat singing, deep dubstep, the Ganesha mantra. After the fire and the flow, you set both feet on the ground.
  • Heart of the Sky (Radha's Love). 128 BPM progressive house and uplifting trance with the full Hare Krishna Hare Rama mantra and soaring leads. After Roots of Power sets your feet on the ground, this is what opens the chest. Hands in the air, heart open. The upper-chakra arc starts here.
  • Voice of Truth (The Transmission). 124 BPM melodic techno with vocoder, robotic vocals, and the Ham mantra of the throat chakra. After the heart opens, the next move is to speak. Crystalline and precise. Coldest sound on the record, on purpose.
  • The Inner Eye (Vision of the Void). 140 BPM goa trance and acid techno. TB-303 squelches, eastern melodies, sitar, the Om Sham mantra of the third eye. After the throat speaks, the eye opens. Trippiest production on the album.
  • Thousand Suns (Sahasrara Peak). Full-on psytrance at 148 BPM. Galloping bassline, crystal synths, the universal Om. Peak of the journey, ego dissolving into a thousand-petaled lotus. The last big drop before the come-down.
  • Ocean of Silence (Shanti). Two minutes of ambient sound healing at 963 Hz. Tibetan singing bowls, ethereal vocals, no drums. The come-down after Thousand Suns. Shortest track. Most necessary track. Album closes here.

How I made it

I wrote concept, story, direction, mantras, and production targets. Suno did the singing and the instruments. The Sanskrit is real Sanskrit, used the way Jai Uttal and the Pagan Love Orchestra used it. The bass drops are real bass drops.
